Tiger Woods is an amazing athlete. Today, he is considered the most successful golfer of all time. He has been ranked in the number one position for more consecutive weeks and total of weeks than any other golfer. Woods has won 14 major golf championships and 65 PGA Tour events.
Eldrict Tont "Tiger" Woods was born on December 30, 1975. As a golf prodigy, he was only two years old when he began to play. Woods putted against celebrity Bob Hope in a contest on the Mike Douglas Show in 1978. In 1991, he became the U.S. Young Amateur Champion - the youngest person ever to accomplish this. He continued to amaze the golf world when he became a professional golfer in 1996. At the young age of 21, he already had endorsements in the amount of $40 million from Nike and for $20 million for Titlist.
Woods won his first golf major, the Masters, in 1996. He continued his career playing amazing golf and winning tournaments year after year. In 2008, he had found it necessary to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He returned to golf and played in the U.S. Open in June 2008. On June 15, he forced the tournament into sudden death when he made a 12 foot birdie putt on the 18th hole. He finished the tournament while still injured.
Right after he won the U.S. Open, he announced that he was going to leave golf to have interior cruciate ligament surgery on his left knee. He would miss the remainder of the 2008 season because of it. His plans are to return during the first part of the 2009 season.
